Vegetarian cuisine in Malaga has gone from being the exception to the rule. If a few years ago there were few options, today we find an important selection of vegan and vegetarian restaurants for all tastes, tastes and pockets. Not only in Malaga city, but throughout the province.

If you are planning a trip to Malaga, or even if you are a ‘boquerón’ and want to know some of the most interesting proposals of this gastronomic philosophy, at Yellowcar we have selected the cream of the crop as far as gastronomy for vegetarians on the Costa del Sol is concerned.

La Vegana

La Vegana tapería is possibly the most famous and well-known vegan restaurant in Málaga. It is the perfect place if you are looking for good atmosphere and better tapas.

Homemade products with vegetarian options. Also, for those occasions when you go with friends who do not follow a veggie or vegetarian diet, La Vegana restaurant also offers meat and fish dishes.

What can you find? From couscous, 100% vegan paella, hummus, croquettes and omelettes to the house specialities, such as garlic seitan with fried potatoes and “egg”, curried jackfruit with basmati rice, paella, “gordivegana” potatoes and pea hummus. To delicious and healthy tapas!

The Wala Room

The Wala Room Málaga is a restaurant to enjoy life and healthy, local food with lots of flavour. A few steps from the seafront promenade of Torremolinos, this space is committed to creativity and delighting the palate to surprise its diners.

Its proposal is that of a healthy cuisine that treats food as little as possible so that it retains all its nutrients. The shitake tartar, salmorejo with almonds and dried tomato, mango and citrus fruits, or baked falafel with sesame and spicy sauce, are some of their specialities.

If you are looking for more vegetarian places to eat in Torremolinos, another good option is Restaurante La Espiga. For example, they have a four-course vegetarian menu for less than 10 euros.

NicPic

Next door to the Vegana tapería, Nicpic Málaga is the green, vegetarian and organic oasis of the Picnic Dreams hostel (it’s on the ground floor). This is the place we are looking for to relax and enjoy a juicy vegetarian meal, with local produce and totally organic.

With ‘happy food’ as a philosophy, fresh and homemade come first, and it’s evident in such appetising dishes as vegan tacos or “vegatacos”, “veganachos”, “vegaguetis”, toast with organic free-range eggs and a wide range of natural juices and smoothies. It also offers gluten-free options and dishes for non-vegetarians.

Estación Quimera

Estación Quimera, in Malaga city, is the option you are looking for if you want tasty and 100% vegetable food. Please note: it’s takeaway food, but it’s only open for lunch, not for dinner.

You’ll find an extensive and strictly vegetarian menu where the classic Russian salad, Moorish soy meat, shawarma, lasagna Bolognese-style seitan, meat pie, samosas… and even scrambled eggs with chorizo!

El Vegetariano de la Alcazabilla

40 different vegetarian dishes like 40 suns, an unbeatable location next to the Alcazaba of Malaga, the Albeniz Theatre and the Roman Theatre, options for vegetarians and coeliacs, a charming terrace, indoor area, peculiar and characteristic decoration. That is the calling card of one of the best vegan restaurants in Malaga.

The respect for homemade and artisan products is evident in the house dishes, which are their speciality, as well as the spinach and peanut croquettes, the tofu burger and their mixed vegan dish. And don’t forget to choose from their wide selection of craft beers and organic wines. Because of its charm, it has been recommended in prestigious gastronomic and travel guides from around the world, such as Le Routard and Lonely Planet.

And more and more vegetarian restaurants in Malaga

Without leaving Malaga capital, we cannot overlook other culinary spaces such as La Calle, which is said to have the best hamburger in the city; the Chilean and South American mastery of the Andino Gastrobar; the hipster place par excellence Recyclo Bike Café; the excellent vegetarian Cañadú in Plaza de la Merced; the Astrid, organic taperia, where the deep fryer is conspicuous by its absence; the innovative Kale & Peper, or the good taste of Lechuga tapas.

Vegetarian restaurants in Malaga province

And now it’s time to get in the car and take a tour of the Costa del Sol in search of the tastiest veggie dishes.

The menu of vegetarian restaurants in Malaga, never better said, covers the entire coast, from the border with Cadiz to Nerja. In Marbella you will find options such as Organic Market & Food or Phoenix Belgian Vegg, which has a menu with good prices and varieties for the little ones in the house.

In San Pedro de Alcántara we will find Cocina con el corazón, and going up from here towards Ronda, a surprise: the Kerkus Veggie Bar in Montecorto, in the heart of the Malaga mountains. The ideal place to recharge your batteries after some of the most interesting trails in Malaga.

In Fuengirola you can enjoy:

  • La Libélula Vegan Café: A very nice place visited by veggies, with a remarkable menu of the day and a creative menu. Not open at night.
  • Vegetalia: Also open only at lunchtime. Relaxed and casual atmosphere, with a varied vegetarian buffet, juices and homemade desserts.
